How our browser background remover processes your photos

Local AI background removal turns a photo into a reusable cutout. Here is how the editor works, what you can export and where to check the result.

Remove a photo background in your browser

Picture Background Remover is a browser-based toolkit for cutting a subject out of a photo. The AI model runs on your device after its files are downloaded. Your photo does not need to be uploaded to an image-processing service, and there is no account to create.

The editor uses the open-source BiRefNet Lite 512 model converted by Studio Ludens. It estimates which pixels belong to the foreground, then applies that mask to your original image. The first use downloads the model; later visits can reuse the browser cache. A cached model still needs a supported browser and enough device memory.

Export a transparent PNG or a white background photo

A cutout is rarely the end of the job. You can compare the result, refine the mask, add white or another color, use a background image, soften the original scene with blur and export PNG, JPG or WebP. For straightforward graphics, white removal and green screen modes use local color processing.

Separate pages explain transparent image backgrounds, white background product pictures, cutting a person out of a photo and removing backgrounds from multiple images, so you can start with the workflow you need.

Check hair, product edges and image size before exporting

AI can miss hair, reflections, fine lines and objects close in color to the scene. The first model download can take time. Each input is limited to 25 MB and 25 megapixels; a session also has file-count and memory limits. GIF editing is limited to a still frame; SVG editing produces raster output. We explain these limits where they affect your choice.

The model examines a smaller version of a photo and scales the mask back to its source dimensions. Keeping the original export size does not guarantee every fine detail is preserved. Compare the cutout with the original, then use the erase and restore brush where an outline needs correction.

Free background removal without an account or watermark

The current tools do not charge per picture or add a watermark. Processing uses your own browser and device resources. You keep responsibility for the source images and for reviewing the final result.
